Road trips are a fun way to explore the United States. We hit the road often – basically every weekend we have free when we’re not flying off somewhere! We have a checklist to make sure our trip is as comfortable as possible. It’s time to share that list with you.
The Paperwork
- Car registration
- Insurance certificate
- Any toll road sticker you might need (we use FastTrak)
- Drivers license or IDP
- A map!
Beat the Heat
In this hot weather a lot of the time we end up driving with the AC off to give our car a break. Here are some hacks to help keep you nice and cool.
- Portable fan
- Biodegradable baby wipes
- Deodorant
- Polarized sunglasses
- Sunscreen
For Hunger and Thirst
Road trips can get long and boring, so it’s nice to stop along the way for a bite to eat. But you don’t want to be stopping every five minutes, so pack these essentials so that you only have to stop when you want to.
- A coolbox with waters and sodas
- Paper towels
- A sharp knife with a cover
- A few granola bars, fruit or summer sausage (things that don’t need to be refrigerated)
- Ziplock bags for leftovers
- Trash bag
Safety
It’s paramount to stay safe on the road! These might be overkill but we’d rather be safe than sorry.
- Pepper spray
- Windshield and seatbelt breaker
- Flashlight
Electronics
You obviously want to keep your electronics charged – how else are you going to DJ the roadtrip?
- A power inverter
- Chargers for phones, speakers, etc.
For Unexpected Stops
We often like to stop at scenic view points along our journey and savor the atmosphere. The best stops are the unplanned ones!
- A lightweight picnic blanket
Keep organized with something like this!
