Silverwood Lake Campground is a relaxed, lakeside campground that affords beautiful views of one of the major lakes near Lake Arrowhead, and is easily accessible to a lakeside walking path.
Location and Logistics
We visited in April, which in our opinion is one of the ideal camping months in California. We find that Silverwood Lake Campground is often available even at short notice, which makes it an easy option for those who don’t have the ability to plan much in advance. Here is the link to their page.
We thought the campground and restrooms were clean, and we were able to have a campfire and grill which are two of our favorite things about camping.
Things to Do
The campground is walking distance to a trail that leads around the lake (Cleghorn Bike Path). We spent a lovely afternoon wandering along this path, which is easy with minimal incline. It is about 7 miles but feels like less as it’s not very strenuous.
For a late lunch, we drove about 15 minutes to Crestline which is a small town overlooking Lake Gregory, one of the surrounding lakes to Silverwood Lake. There were a few smaller restaurants there, and it was a nice small mountain-side town to walk around.
Lake Arrowhead is also a short drive away, though we did not visit during this trip.
Special Considerations
Although it was April which is usually fairly warm in California, we were freezing at night! Here is a photo of our frozen propane tank. We were so happy to have our campfire that night, and used our water-bottle-in-sock method to keep ourselves warm at night.
