11 Things You Absolutely Must Eat and Drink in France

So you made it to France. Delicious food is EVERYWHERE. This list will help you to make sure you sample the very best of French cuisine while you take in all the sights and sounds!

  1. Croissants. OBVIOUSLY. There will be no shortage of cute little bakeries to stop into to purchase these flaky delicacies. There is nothing better than an authentic French croissant.

2. Crepes. Get them from the Latin Quarter in Paris. They come in sweet and savory varieties and are handmade in front of you. They are also super affordable.

3. Moules frites. Our absolute favorite place to eat these are at Lou Pilha Leva in Nice, France. Portion sizes are massive and the sauce is so decadent. Pairs well with white wine.

4. Socca. Socca is a local dish from Nice, France. It is a mix between a pancake and piece of flatbread and is unlike any other carb we have ever tried!

5. Street baguette. These are the easiest meal to eat on-the-go or to take to a picnic to one of the many gardens in Paris. They are simple but delicious due to the high quality of the bread and fresh ingredients. Paul is a great staple (there is one in the Louvre!)

6. Nicoise salad. This salad is one of Yas’s favorite things to eat in the U.S., so naturally we had to try an authentic one! Ingredients include delicious tuna, red potatoes, green beans, olives and boiled eggs. Healthy but delicious.

7. Wine. One of our favorite wine experiences was at Domain Bertaud Belieu Winery near Saint Tropez, and we hear Leo di Caprio feels similarly!

8. Cheese. From anywhere. Any time of day. All the time.

9. Pastries. You won’t be at a loss for finding delicious sweets in France. We liked the Tarte Tropezienne – a delicious confection made of light fluffy brioche and cream. This hand crafted ball of chocolate was from La Villa Mauresque and we don’t know what its called, but 10/10.

10.  Escargot. Don’t knock it until you’ve tried it! These were actually delicious and we would eat them again. Our favorite escargot was on the dinner boat cruise down the Seine. Link to cruise here!

11.  Beef Bourguignon. Our favorite was at Au Clairon des Chasseurs in Montmartre. We also loved the live music so much that we purchased their album!
