The Ultimate Carry On Backpacks for Light Travel

We only ever travel with our backpacks, hence “luxury backpackers”. There are a few key tips to traveling light, and one of the most important things is finding the best carry on backpack for you!

First, you should know that the highest volume backpack you can technically take on board is a 45 L backpack. Yas takes a 50 L backpack but doesn’t pack it all the way full so she has room to take souvenirs back, and Dev carries a 40 L backpack.

Osprey Farpoint 40L

This is Dev’s backpack of choice and makes an IDEAL carry on backpack for organized packers. It has adjustable straps and a large main compartment. There are also several smaller lockable compartments for valuables. It is super compact and you don’t have to worry about overfilling it, as it is under the 45L maximum. You can find it here.

Forclaz Trek 100 Easyfit 50L

This backpack is Yas’s backpack of choice. It’s amazing for messy packers because it is basically one large compartment to throw things into. There are a few smaller side pockets as well, but the main action is the big inside pocket. The backpack is super light so you can fit lots inside while remaining at a decent weight! Find it here.

Baboon Go-Bag 40L

We haven’t tried this one out yet, but are super excited to soon. It has a large compartment similar to the Osprey Farpoint. It can be carried with backpack straps or as a suitcase. The bright colors are definitely a plus – so easy to spot from a distance! Find this gem here.

F.A.R. Convertible Backpack 45L

This one is also carryable as a backpack or suitcase. It’s made from recycled materials and comes in three amazing colors. There are lots of pockets for added storage, and you can even throw it on top of a rolly bag as a nice addition to suitcase travel. Find this one here.
