We love visiting Ojai. It’s such a quick drive from LA and has everything from vineyards, to olive oil farms, to organic honey. The faces are friendly and the food is delicious. We especially love camping near Ojai which allows us to visit the city during the day and make the most of the outdoors at night!
Best Campgrounds Near Ojai
Here are our three favorite campgrounds that are easily accessible to Ojai, California!
#1 Wheeler Gorge
Wheeler Gorge is located in Los Padres National Forest. It’s a 15 minute drive away from Ojai, making it super convenient and accessible. It’s located in a gorge, meaning most of the campsites have amazing shade. This is important as Ojai is often very hot! There is also a lively creek that runs through the campground. When we visited there were lots of kids playing in the creek cooling down from the heat and marveling at the tadpoles. There’s no water available at the campground, and the toilets are pit. You’re allowed to have a campfire most of the time. The camp hosts are super friendly and nice. They can sell you firewood if you need it, but the drive to town is short and quick too.

#2 Dennison Park
Dennison Park is a Ventura county campground located about ten minutes from Ojai. It is on the southern end of Ojai, whereas Wheeler Gorge is up north. This campground is set on a hill and overlooks the Ojai valley, making for spectacular views. It’s also near the Ojai Valley viewpoint. We love that this campground is often available when other campgrounds are booked, and it’s super easy to self-book online.

#3 Middle Lion Campground
This campground is a little further out from Ojai, about 45 minutes. It’s also located in Los Padres National Forest. Toilets are pit and it’s a little challenging for smaller cars to access this location down the dirt path. This campground is pretty close to Rose Valley Campground. We visited here to do a cool hike to a waterfall. Keep in mind to bring plenty of water as it gets HOT out here.
