  1. Sunscreen. Sunscreen sticks are ALL about saving space and portability. Plus, since they’re not technically liquid, you don’t have to pack them in your luggage!

2. Bug Spray Wipes. Same goes for these – packing a few wipes is so much easier than packing a bottle of bug spray. We were hesitant to use these at first and weren’t sure if they’d be too messy. They work like a dream.

3. Packable Travel Towel. Please don’t pack a bulky towel in your luggage, there’s just no need. These come in many sizes and colors so you can find the perfect towel for you.

4. Compressible Water Bottles. We typically fill these up for free after we walk through security at the airport, and when we’re done with them we fold them back down to miniature size. You can even just clip it on your backpack!

5. Solid Shampoo and Conditioner. No need to check large containers in your luggage, or panic about reading the labels in the pharmacy of another country. These solids are just want we need to keep clean and fresh without the mess. They’re also climate pledge friendly and come in a few different scents.

6. Detergent Sheets. If you’re going to be gone for a while and anticipate doing some laundry on your trip, look no further. Instead of messing around with goopy liquid detergent, throw a few of these in your bag. They work GREAT and are so much easier and lighter to use than traditional laundry detergent.

And there you have it – these are the compact items we use regularly to save space in our backpacks! For more inspiration about where you can take your backpack, head on over to our Itineraries by Region page!
