24 Hours in Hong Kong

I was in Hong Kong for less than 24 hours during a layover to Bali, but figured I might as well explore the city as much as possible during my time there! I highly recommend spending a long connection in the city, and hope to return for more exploring in the future.

I took the train from Hong Kong Airport to the city for about $15 and it took under half an hour. There’s also a bus, but I was really impressed by the clean and efficient train ride over.

Practicalities:

Currency: HK$

Recommended length of stay: I only stayed for less than 24 hours but could have spent at least a week or two here!

Month of visit: April

Here are a couple of the highlights:

Food in Hong Kong

This sprawling city has multiple affordable Michelin starred restaurants. Check out dim sum at Tin Ho Wan. In my opinion, one of the best things to do in Hong Kong is eat your way around the city!

Views

Hong Kong is a city full of amazing views. Even my hotel, Lan Kwai Fong Hotel, which was on the less expensive side, was a skyscraper with cool views of the city and the harbor.

You can take the Star Ferry to Victoria Harbour which is gorgeous and offers views of the skyline and water.

One of my favorite views was heading up the Victoria Peak Tram to the Peak Tower and Sky Terrace. This had the most breathtaking view across the city. It cost about $11 USD for a return ticket. I went at night time and all of the cities buildings were lit up like twinkling stars.

Shopping

Hong Kong is famous for luxury and local shopping alike. While walking around I saw many big names like Prada, Gucci, and the like. I also checked out the Temple Street Night Market which is open until midnight. You can purchase a variety of things here – from fresh fruit and veg, cooked food, clothes, souvenirs and much more! You can even have your fortune told!

It was a quick trip – I’m sure I’ll be back as this is not nearly all Hong Kong has to offer! Of note, Hong Kong Airport does offer several Priority Pass lounges to while away the time in, which is how I spent my time during the connection on the way back.
